I have wanderlust. I have to admit it. Doesn’t matter where I go, I always find unique experiences and fascinating characters. Drop me off in a location and I will find something to occupy myself all day. I can be timid about somethings, but when it comes to travel I am out there.
I love to fly. Don’t get me wrong: the landing always has me armrest gripping and saying a little prayer, But I even enjoy processing through airports — unless it’s through customs in a third world country where you’re not sure whether they will let you in or not — the off and on of shoes and unpacking electronics for the scanners. All of it, I guess for me, means I’m going somewhere and usually somewhere different.
I travel with my husband on business several times a year. So while he’s in conferences and networking, I am roaming the streets and mass transit trying to live like a local and just pretend for a day that I am somewhere else and I live somewhere else.
Of course, anyone can do this wherever they are. Have you ever been driving or riding around your own hometown and looked around with fresh eyes. Things tend to disappear when they become rote – something you’ve seen so frequently that you don’t even notice it anymore. The same it true for any new place you travel to the people that live there and experience that place daily.
I will be writing many travel stories and telling you about the things I’ve found and the people I’ve discovered that have made my life a richer one.
Till next time and the next place — Cathy
